A Cross-Platform fitness platform for live classes, coaching and nutrition

Digital Fitness & Wellness Provider

Introduction

Digital fitness moved from a convenience to a primary channel. Providers that once filled physical studios now compete for members who train at home, on their own schedule, on their own devices — and who expect the coaching relationship to survive that move.

That shift is harder than streaming video. A member attending a live class also wants their coach reachable, their nutrition plan current, their progress visible and their group present. When each of those lives in a different tool, the experience fragments and the coaching relationship — the thing members actually pay for — weakens.

This provider faced exactly that gap: a clear service model, and no single product to deliver it.

Key Challenges

  • No unified member application — Classes, coach contact, nutrition guidance and progress tracking had no common home, so members moved between disconnected tools.
  • Live delivery, not just video — Scheduled group sessions had to run in real time, with the coach present, rather than as recorded content.
  • Two app stores, one team — Reaching members meant shipping and maintaining both an iOS and an Android app without doubling the delivery effort.
  • Mixed audiences in one product — Members, coaches and administrators each needed a different view and different privileges inside the same application.

Objectives

Kansoft and the client defined a single member-facing platform that carried the whole service, not one part of it:

  • Live class delivery — Members attend scheduled online sessions and group classes.
  • Coach access — Direct interaction between members and their coaches inside the app.
  • Nutrition management — Diet plans and dietary guidance maintained per member.
  • Activity tracking — Visible progress, kept in the same place as the training itself.
  • Role-based access — One application serving members, coaches and administrators.

Our Solution

  • One cross-platform application — Built with Ionic and published to both the App Store and Google Play from a single codebase, so feature work lands on iOS and Android together instead of being scheduled twice.
  • An ASP.NET Core service layer — A central backend exposing REST APIs for scheduling, member profiles, nutrition data and activity records, giving every client the same source of truth.
  • Live sessions and group collaboration — Scheduled live fitness classes, group sessions and member-to-member interaction, so the social element of a studio survives the move to remote training.
  • Nutrition and activity modules — Coach-maintained diet charts and nutrition guidance alongside an activity tracker, keeping the plan and the progress against it in one view.
  • Appointments, feeds and notifications — Appointment management, an in-app news and announcement feed, plus email and text notifications to keep members ahead of their schedule.
  • User-specific permissions — Role-based access control separating what members, coaches and administrators can each see and do.

What was delivered

  • A single member platform — Classes, coaching, nutrition and progress delivered in one application rather than across several tools.
  • Presence on both stores — Live on the App Store and Google Play from one Ionic codebase.
  • A retained coaching relationship — Direct coach contact and group collaboration carried into the remote setting.
  • A base to extend — A REST-API backend that new modules can be added to without reworking the mobile clients.

Client Overview

A US-based digital fitness provider offering coached, class-based training to a distributed membership. Members needed to attend fitness classes online, connect directly with coaches, receive personalised nutrition guidance and take part in group sessions — but no single application delivered all of it. Reaching a membership that trains at home rather than on site meant putting the full studio experience on the devices those members already carry, on both iOS and Android.

FAQ

Questions about this engagement

Is the app available on both iOS and Android?

Yes, published to both the App Store and Google Play from a single Ionic codebase, so feature work lands on both platforms together instead of being scheduled twice.

How are live classes delivered?

As scheduled real-time sessions with the coach present, including group classes, rather than recorded video. Member-to-member interaction is part of the same surface.

Can one app serve members, coaches and administrators?

Yes. Role-based access control separates what each group can see and do, so the three audiences share one application rather than needing separate products.

What runs behind the mobile app?

An ASP.NET Core backend exposing REST APIs for scheduling, member profiles, nutrition data and activity records, which gives every client the same source of truth.
